British Airways BA295 in close call 'as landing gear fails to deploy while descending to land at Heathrow
A British Airways pilot has been hailed a hero for landing his plane safely after the landing gear failed.
Airport officials have apologised to passengers after the technical fault meant Flight BA 295 could only use one runway for a time on Saturday, causing disruption to flights.
The flight was two hours into its journey from London to Chicago when it was diverted for "technical reasons".
It was met by fire engines and the experience described as "quite scary" by one passenger.
Ben de Pear said the captain explained to passengers the plane landed on three sets of wheels instead of five.
