Girl, 12, 'raped at knifepoint' by man posing as 'police officer'

The man, who was riding a bike, said she matched the description of a shoplifter and that he needed to search her

                               Sandhurst Road - Edmonton, London
A 12-year-old girl was raped at knifepoint by a man claiming to be a police officer, detectives said.
The man, who was riding a bike, stopped a girl in Sandhurst Road, Edmonton, at about 5.30pm on Wednesday and claimed to be an officer, it has been claimed.
He said she matched the description of a shoplifter and that he needed to search her, police said.
As he carried out the search he is then accused of threatening her with the knife and raping her.

The alleged attack is being linked to another incident an hour earlier in Shirley Grove.
In that incident, a man on a bike stopped the girl and told her to come with him to a van, again saying she matched the description of someone he needed to arrest, a Met Police spokesman said.
He is accused of then grabbing her by the wrists but she refused and managed to run away when he let go.
A 32-year-old man was arrested on Thursday in connection with both incidents and is currently in custody at a north London police station.
Detective Inspector Tracey Cormack, from the Met's Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command said: "We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed these offences or think they may have been approached by this man to come forward and report this to the police."
