The government of Germany has
indicated interest to help Nigeria train its security agencies and to
exchange intelligence that will help the ongoing fight against Boko Haram insurgency in the country.
According to the Deputy Minister of Defence of Germany, Dr. Ralf Brauksiepe,
who revealed the German government’s decision in Abuja Monday, March
21, 2016, said since terrorism remains a a major threat to humanity, it
requires effective cooperation of all countries.
Brauksiepe disclosed this while delivering a lecture at the National Defence College in Nigeria's capital.
He
condemned the increasing cases of piracy, poverty and organised crime
in Africa, promising that Germany would continue to support the
continent fight against terrorism, piracy and other forms of criminality
creating conflict.
Reacting to the offer, the Commandant of the National Defence College, Rear Admiral Samuel Alade, said the relationship between Nigeria and Germany has been mutually beneficial to both countries.
Giving
the issue of global terrorism, piracy and maritime security remaining a
major challenge, the National Defence College participants drawn from
different parts of Africa are expected to come up with policies that
would help address some of these challenges.
