Mourinho could be offered the job if his attempt to join
Manchester United does not work out and if current
England team coach, Roy Hodgson, fails to perform
convincingly at this year's Euro 2016 championship.
Before Hodgeson inherited the team after Euro 2012,
Mourinho had been interviewed about becoming England
boss before Fabio Capello was appointed, and he has
always retained a high reputation at Wembley despite
his brushes with authority.
If United continue to hesitate over his appointment
England are ready to move swiftly to get the
Portuguese on board to build towards a World Cup
challenge in 2018, .
